Lonnie Edgar Hancock, Adair Co., KY (1936-2013)

He was a member of a highly regarded Adair County, KY family, the son of the late Loren and Glenna Hancock and one of the distinguished Hancock Brothers. His wife, rosella Starke Hancock, survives. He leaves 3 direct living descendants. Edgar was the golf course superintendent at Pauma Valley Country Club in Pauma Valley, California for 18 years. In 1977, he and his family moved to a farm in Columbia. In 2005, he retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation after 20 years of service. He loved keeping his lawn looking like a golf course. He had a life-long passion for stock car and open wheel racing. Not only was he a fan, he also raced stock cars at El Cajon Speedway in El Cajon, CA, in the 1960's.

Lonnie Edgar Hancock, 77, of Columbia, KY, died Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 8:40pmET, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY.

At Edgar's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service, but friends may Send a condolence to the family of Edgar Hancock online. And donations to his special passion, St. Jude's, may be made at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY.

He was born February 29, 1936. He was the son of the late Loren and Glenna Hancock. He died Sunday, June 9, 2013, in Somerset, Pulaski County, KY, at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 9 days.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Geneva Raye Hancock and Jewell Law.

Edgar was the golf course superintendent at Pauma Valley Country Club in Pauma Valley, California for 18 years. In 1977, he and his family moved to a farm in Columbia. In 2005, he retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation after 20 years of service. He loved keeping his lawn looking like a golf course. He had a life-long passion for stock car and open wheel racing. Not only was he a fan, he also raced stock cars at El Cajon Speedway in El Cajon, CA, in the 1960's. Survivors include the following:
  • His wife: Rosella Starke Hancock of Columbia, KY

  • Two daughters: Donna Hancock of Lexington, Ellen (Ed) Woolery of Richmond, KY

  • Three special little boys: Grandson, Eddie Woolery, Great-Great Nephews, Cy Yarberry and Brody Brock

  • And a special niece: Ashtin Hancock

  • Four sisters: Charlene Taylor of Columbia, KY; Vera (Starlin) Burris of Columbus, IN; Betty (Leamon) Burton of Hope, IN; and Carolyn Sue (Rick) Perry of Flora, IL
  • Five brothers: Oral Hancock of Columbia, KY; Gerald (Martha) Hancock of Columbus, IN: Jay Reed (Nancy) Hancock of Tampa, FL: Jeff (Patricia) Hancock of Russell Springs, KY; and Ronnie Hancock of Columbia, KY

  • Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Jude's Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Memphis, TN 38148.
