COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson College will celebrate the official start of summer with the inaugural season of TheatreFest!

The new regional summer drama program will begin with a performance of Robin Hawdon's farcical Perfect Wedding on June 21, the day of the summer solstice. The inaugural season of TheatreFest! will also include a 75th-anniversary celebration of Thornton Wilder's beloved Our Town and a one-man performance of Mark Twain by Robert Brock.

"We're excited about expanding Southcentral Kentucky's cultural offerings during the summer," said Brock, a stage veteran who is an LWC assistant professor of theater and TheatreFest! producer. "All three productions will provide an enjoyable theater experience for all members of the family."

All productions will be in V.P. Henry Auditorium, 210 Lindsey Wilson St., which is on the Lindsey Wilson A.P. White Campus. The 350-seat theater recently received a $200,000 renovation, which Brock said "makes it an ideal house for summer productions."

The casts for Perfect Wedding and Our Town will feature Lindsey Wilson theater students, LWC faculty and staff, and members of the community.

"The two plays will be true community productions," Brock said. "Part of our vision for TheatreFest! is to produce shows that utilize the talents of our students, faculty, staff as well as area residents from Columbia and other nearby cities. One thing people will discover when they attend a performance is that there is a lot of talent in Southcentral Kentucky."

Brock has given several one-man performances of Mark Twain, the American humorist with ancestral ties to Columbia. Twain's mother, Jane Lampton Clemens, was born in 1803 in Adair County, and the Adair County High School marching band's annual festival is named in his honor.

"No matter your age, background or interest, the wit and wisdom of Mark Twain resonates with you," Brock said.
