Driver arrested after vehicle destroys Gradyville polling place He faces multiple charges from incident, after being ejected from westbound vehicle after it left KY 80, hit and destroyed the Gradyville/Nell Voting Place, goes airborne, lands on top of two parked cars at D & F Grocery, and does extensive damages to the vehicles. Deputy Sheriff Aaron Rainwater Adair County Sheriff Deputy Aaron Rainwater was dispatched to a vehicle accident with injuries at 3:42pmCT, Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 3:42pmCT. Byron Firkins age 21, of Columbia, KY, was operating a 2000 Honda west on West Kentucky 80/Edmonton Road, when he traveled off the left shoulder of the road. The vehicle then traveled approximately 80 yards through a field where Firkins was ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle then traveled on and ran through a storage building (owned by Adair Fiscal Court and used as the Gradyville/Nell voting house - CM). After running through the building the vehicle went airborne, landing on top of a 1992 Chevrolet Z71 pick-up and a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox SUV, belonging to Frances Salyers, of Columbia) that were parked in the D & F Grocery parking lot. Firkins' vehicle came to rest on top of the vehicles. Firkins was treated on scene by Adair County EMS but refused transport. Firkins was then arrested and charged with operating motor vehicle under influence of drugs/alcohol 1st offense, operating motor vehicle on suspended/revoked operators license, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Firkins was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.
