Victoria Pike: Continue tradition to honor memory of Miss Martha

In honor of her, Martha Martin, and her sister, Mary Evelyn Walker, writer says, "We must keep up this great tradition that our Adair County Democrat Woman's Club has had of helping those deserving ACHS graduates continue their education." That tradition is reasing money for the Bernice Flowers Scholarship Fund

By Victoria Pike

I believe that Miss Martha, as I always called her, can surely convince the Good Lord to give us a sunny day for our bake sale June 15, 2013. If anyone could, it would be her. In our most desperate situations Miss Martha could convince people to do things here on earth that none of the rest of us could.

Miss Martha was one of our most loyal members and we greatly miss her views. She always had new ideas for us to try and was always there to lend a hand.

Her sister, Miss Mary Evelyn Walker was also blessed with the gift of getting things done. Both women were very active in seeing that the Bernice Flowers Scholarship continued over the years. In honor of these special ladies, we must keep up this great tradition that our Adair County Democrat Woman's Club has had of helping those deserving ACHS graduates continue their education.

We have a great group of ladies in our club that are always ready to do their part to help raise funds to support our scholarship. I urge all to do their part this year in honor of ALL the dear ladies we have lost in the past. - Victoria Pike
