Truck strikes telephone pole, fire hydrant, closing Burkesville ST Russell Springs, KY driver faces multiple charges. Had left the scene but was quickly located. Was driving 1997 Dodge Truck which had been reported stolen in Campbellsville, KY, Tuesday evening June 4, 2013, incident results part in Burkesville Street in Columbia closing for nearly 3 hours. Josh Brockman News from Columbia Police Department, Chief Jason Cross On June 4, 2013, at at 7:53pmCT, Columbia Police Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision around the 500 block of Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY. Upon arrival officers found that a truck had struck a telephone pole and a fire hydrant. The operator had left the scene but was quickly located with the help of witnesses to the collision. The incident occurred when 26 year old Christopher Russell of Russell Springs, KY, was operating a 1997 Dodge truck north on Burkesville Street and lost control, travelling through ditch line and knocking down a telephone pole before coming to rest on top of a fire hydrant. The collision resulted in the roadway being shut down and traffic detours being set up by CPD officers and Adair County Search and Rescue for nearly 3 hours while employees of Columbia/Adair Utilities District worked to stop the water loss from the severed hydrant and KY Utilities worked to clear the downed lines and damaged pole. Russell was charged with Leaving the scene of a accident, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence, Receiving Stolen Property over $10,000 dollars, Criminal Mischief 1st degree, Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Russell also had 2 outstanding Warrants of Arrest for Failure to Appear in Adair District Court. During the course of the investigation it was found that the 97 Dodge truck belonged to Mack Davis Construction and had been entered as stolen by Taylor County Sheriff's Department on May 31, 2013. Russell was lodged in Adair County Regional Jail by Officer's Drew Conn and Josh Brockman. Columbia Police were assisted by Deputy Adam Cravens, Adair Search and Rescue, Constable Joe Collins and Constable Jason Rector. This story was posted on 2013-06-05 03:08:21
