KSP says Ofc. Jason Ellis ambushed as he was picking up debris Bardstown Police Officer Murder Case Update: Kentucky State Police investigators believe it was premeditated murder. They are not sure whether Ofc. Ellis was the intendeded victim, or that the intended victim was any member of the Bardstown Police Department, or just any person who might have stopped to pick up the debris. Currently $6,000 reward is offered for the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators. Public's help is invited. Smallest detail may help solve the crime. Perpetrator is still at large The next earlier update: Name of officer killed in Bardstown released By MTPR Norman Chaffins, Public Affairs Officer Kentucky State Police Post 4, Elizabethtown, KY This update is a summary of the news conference from today, Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the KSP Post 4 in Elizabethtown, KY. We can confirm that Ofc. Ellis was ambushed. This was a premeditated murder. Ofc. Ellis stepped from his cruiser to remove debris on the Exit 34 off ramp of the Bluegrass Parkway. He was shot multiple times as he removed the debris. Ofc. Ellis was not able to return fire. Investigators are not certain whether Ofc. Ellis was the target of the attack or whether any police officer was the target. It is also possible that whomever stopped to remove the debris was the target. All options are still being considered. We are asking for the public's help. Anyone who may have been in the area on the day of, or any day prior that may have seen or heard anything at where this occurred is asked to come forward. It may have been a car parked on the ramp, people walking or standing around a day or a few days prior to the shooting. Anything that seemed out of place or unusual may be the tip we are looking for. The smallest detail that may not seem important to a lay person may be the one detail we need to bring someone to justice. There are a number of ways someone may leave a tip. Citizens may also visit www.kentuckystatepolice.org and follow the links to their local KSP Post and email the Public Affairs Officer with a tip.
