COLUMBIA, KY - No. 2-seed Lindsey Wilson got a solo home run in the second inning and a three-run shot in the fifth to help knock off No. 3-seed Davenport (MI) 6-2 in the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round - Lindsey Wilson Bracket today, Monday, May 13, 2013.



The Blue Raiders return to play in the winner's bracket at 1pmCT on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, against either No. 1-seed Auburn-Montgomery (AL) or No. 4-seed Grand View (Iowa) at Lindsey Wilson Park, 828 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.

Up against a tall order in Panther starter Sam Cole, with her 23-7 record and 1.34 ERA, the Blue Raiders got lucky with a quick long ball from Travatia Bowden in the second inning over the center-field fence.

The 1-0 lead lasted one inning before right fielder Ashleigh Blovsky hit an RBI single to left-center to score KC Dunne and tie the game.

After a tight game through four innings, Lindsey Wilson was able to get itself some breathing room with four runs on three hits and an error in the fifth frame. Third baseman Lauren Payne scored first on a wild throw from second base before first baseman Kristina Krupinski lifted a three-run homer to left to put Lindsey Wilson up 5-1.

Another single run came home for the Blue Raiders in the sixth on a single from Payne, butDavenport wasn't done scoring in the game either as Blovsky added to her 3-for-3 day with a home run to right field to cut her team's deficit to 6-2.

With Jordan Hood pitching in relief for the Blue Raiders, both teams failed to score again in the final inning as Lindsey Wilson held on for the 6-2 win to stay in the winner's bracket of the double-elimination tournament.

Cara Law started and picked up the win for the Blue Raiders, improving to 12-2 with a single run allowed on three hits in four innings with two strikeouts. Hood closed out the final three frames, allowing one run on the Blovsky homer and striking out three.

Cole (23-8) pitched every inning for the Panthers to take the loss, allowing six runs, one earned, on six hits with three strikeouts.

Davenport is back in action at today, Monday, May 13, 2013, 4pmCT, at Lindsey Wilson Sports Park, 828 Russell Road, Columbia, KY, in the loser's bracket against the loser of AUM and Grand View.
