LWC's to award degrees to school's largest class ever Dr. Roger Drake to deliver commencement address. 558 graduates for 2012-13 school year sets record. Honorary doctorates will be awarded to Dr. Drake and to Columbia, KY native Carol Marra of Louisville, KY, who is the daughter of the late Clyde and Christine Cheatham By Duane Bonifer COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson College will graduate the second half of its largest class in college history on May 11, 2013. The liberal arts college will award 177 graduate and undergraduate degrees at its spring ceremony, to be held at 10amCT on Saturday, May 11, in Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive. It will be LWC's 97th overall commencement ceremony. Combined with the 381 degrees awarded in December at winter commencement, this school year's 558 graduates make the Class of 2013 the largest in LWC's 110-year history. LWC awarded a total of 445 degrees in 2011-12, and a decade ago it awarded 151 degrees. "To have a 270 percent increase in graduates in 10 years is pretty remarkable," said LWC President William T. Luckey Jr., who has been the college's eighth president since 1998. Luckey said this year's graduating class is "among the brightest we've had since I became president." He noted that several students are headed to medical schools in Kentucky, pharmacy schools in Kentucky and neighboring states, and graduate and professional schools throughout the region. The spring commencement address will be given by LWC Vice President of Administration and Finance Roger Drake, who is president-elect of Central Methodist (MO) University. Drake, who has been at LWC since 2004, will receive an honorary doctorate from the college. Also receiving an honorary doctorate from LWC will be Carol Marra of Louisville, Ky., a longtime educator and 26-year member of the LWC Board of Trustees. A native of Adair County and the daughter of the late Clyde and Christine Cheatham, Marra graduated from Lindsey Wilson in 1967. Following commencement, the Lindsey Wilson National Alumni Association will host a reception for graduates and their guests in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center, 430 Helen Flatt Drive.
