Gertrude Marcum Vance, age 96 of Nicholasville, KY, formerly from Summersville, KY, died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Hospice Care Center, St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, KY after a long illness.

Funeral services will be at 10amCT/11amET, Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home, 209 W. Court Street, Greensburg, KY, with Dr. Mark Johnson, the officiating clergy. Visitation will be after 5pmCT/6pmET, Wednesday, May 1, 2013 and after 7amCT/8amET, Thursday at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home. Interment will be in Aetna Grove Cemetery, Green County KY.



Gertrude Vance, Green County, KY (1916-2013)

Gertrude Marcum Vance, was born in Green County, KY, September 9, 1916, daughter of the late Walter and Kate Marcum. She died Sunday, April 28, 2013 Lexington, KY after a long illness at the age of 96 years, 7 months, and 19 days..

She was united in marriage October 11, 1940 to Creswell Vance, who preceded her in death November 8, 1983.

She is survived by the following:
  • Her daughter: Sandy Vance Thompson and son-in-law, Art Thompson of Nicholasville, KY

  • Special friends: Lohmann and Leslie Sidebottom of Nicholasville, KY and Lisa Lemire of Lexington, KY

  • Caregivers and friends throughout the past 4 years: JoAnn Goss, Georgia Mae Locker and Barbara Estepp

  • A beloved granddog: Baylee

  • Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

  • She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mayme Milby and Nancy Dyer: and two special granddogs, Boomer and Bandee.

    She was a teacher in Green County, KY, retiring in 1981 after 40 years of teaching. She was a member of the American Legion Rod Lowe Post 124 Ladies Auxiliary, Greensburg, KY, the Jessamine County Retired Teachers Association and was a Kentucky Colonel. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, Green County and attended Central Baptist Church, Lexington, KY for many years.

    The family has requested expressions of sympathy be donations to the Hospice of the Bluegrass or the Jessamine County Humane Society. These can be made at the funeral home. Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home, 209 W Court Street, Greensburg, KY, in charge of arrangements.
