E-town KSP Post 4 warns of latest phone phishing scam By MTPR Norman Chaffins, Public Information Officer Kentucky State Police Post 15, Elizabethtown, KY (ELIZABETHTOWN, KY) - The Kentucky State Police and the Cecilian Bank in the Post 4 area want to warn citizens of a phone phishing scam that seeks to obtain individual's credit card and pin numbers. Citizens receive an automated phone call stating that their bank's debit card has been canceled. The call later asks the victim to enter their 16 digit card number and personal identification number to resolve the issue with their card. This call is NOT coming from the Cecilian Bank. On cellular devices this caller i.d. shows up as 4-9-9. If you receive one of these calls immediately hang up and call your local banking center. Additionally, the KSP asks that you never give any personal information, pin numbers, or passwords over the phone to anyone requesting it. If you are unsure of the source ask for a call back number so that you may verify the information they are requesting. - MTPR Norman Chaffins This story was posted on 2013-03-27 08:25:54
