Miss Donna: Sharing piece of heaven with her goats

'They're not just incredible mowing machines with an appetite for wild roses and poison ivy (score 100 points right there!), but they're creatures who come when called, know their names, shake hands and give kisses when asked.' - MISS DONNA

By Miss Donna

Being somewhat crippled after my car accident last October, being a single "older" person trying to run a farm on my own has been a challenge, to say the least.

But it's OK. I'm thankful...thankful I didn't lose my life, thankful I didn't lose a limb, thankful I'm not paralyzed from the neck down...it could have been a lot worse.

Every day is a blessing and a gift.

As for my goats, they're not just my main source of income, they're the creatures who share with me this little piece of Kentucky land that I call my little slice of heaven.

They're not just incredible mowing machines with an appetite for wild roses and poison ivy (score 100 points right there!), but they're creatures who come when called, know their names, shake hands and give kisses when asked.

Tonight, I watched the sun go down sitting in the grass with a milky-breathed bottle-baby curled up in my lap giving off enough body heat to keep both of us warm. One of life's simple pleasures? I'd have to answer, Yes! So, goodnight as I write this, for now, and God bless all! - Miss Donna

Just kids, enjoying a little bit of heaven, Clifty Creek Farms

2013-03-20 - Eastern Adair County, KY - Photo by Tommy Bailey. Jenny and I were fortunate enough to meet and become friends with Miss Donna this past weekend. She invited us up to her piece of heaven, on Russell Creek in Adair County. As beautiful as the scenery is, it's Miss Donna and her goats, dog, horse and cats which make up that piece of heaven. What a beautiful setting. You have to admire this lady! - TOMMY BAILEY
