Greater Bliss prepares for Greg Thomas' storm sirens tests

Progress comes to county folk: Citizens already know to hide under the mattress; now, with Greg's new sirens, households will no longer have to rely on back porch lookouts to know how bad the storm is. Gary will be able to abandon post, get under mattress with Gertrude and Miz Victoria

News from Farmer Friendly, Progressive, Greater Bliss, Adair Co., KY

Oh, I am so excited they are going to be up and working soon. Thanks to Greg for all his hard work in getting them for our county.

Now I must get the girls, my cows, ready for the first test. I am hoping they are well enough trained to not get too excited but I will be on standby just in case.

Now, if we have a tornado warning, my husband Gary won't have to stand on the porch and look to see during such an event. He can get under the mattress or in the cellar with the rest of us.

Last year he stood on the porch as the hailstorm struck yelling reports back to us under the mattress that there was a tornado over Walmart. --Victoria Pike Comments re article 58302 Adair outdoor sirens get first test on Friday March 22 2013

Greater Bliss leader now more concerned about sirens

2013-03-19 - Intersection KY 61/KY 80, Greater Bliss, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. When this picture was taken on October 10, 2012, Miz Victoria, in white blouse was on standby to advise Adair County Emergency Disaster Manager Greg Thomas and West Shore Services where the rocks were which might impede the impaling of the emergency storm warning system, and bravely, perhaps prematurely, bragged on how her girls, her cows, were townified enough that they would not be alarmed by the noise. Now, as Thomas prepares to begin 1st Monday at 10amCT tests of the system, she's become slightly trepidatious, worrying again about her cows' reaction to the wailing, but happy that now all three of the manor house residents can hide under the mattress when storms blow in out of the west.
