3 injured, one critical, in 6-vehicle crash on interstate 65 Hardin County crash at SB Exit 65 crash involves drivers from Leitchfield, Goshen, Greensburg, Shelbyville, KY; and Middletown, OH, and Noblesville, IN By MTPR Norman Chaffins, Public Affairs Officer Kentucky State Police Officers ELIZABETHTOWN, KY - On Monday, March 4, 2013 at approximately 2:30pmET, KSP Post 4 Troopers responded to a traffic collision on I-65 at the southbound exit 94. A 2006 Freightliner Tractor Trailer operated by 60 year old Jerry D. Compton of Leitchfield, KY was traveling south in the center lane of I-65. The Freightliner struck the rear of a 2013 Ford Escape operated by John R. Warner, age 61, of Goshen, KY. The Ford went airborne and overturned landing in the left hand lane. The Freightliner continued southbound striking a 2005 Pontiac Montana operated by Tanya R. Martz, age 38, of Greensburg, KY. Martz was stopped in traffic. The Pontiac Montana then struck the rear of a 2011 Ford Transit Connect operated by Natalie F. Mudd, age 35, of Shelbyville, KY. The Transit then spun into the left hand lane where it came to final rest. The Ford Transit Connect turned sideways in the center lane and was struck in the passenger side by the Freightliner and was pushed into the rear of a 1997 Volvo Tractor Trailer operated by Steve D. Mabe II, age 44, of Middletown, OH. As the Ford Transit Connect spun sideways it also struck a 2007 Jeep Commander in the passenger door. The Jeep Commander was operated by David Pruett, age 49 of Noblesville, IN. Warner was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital with life threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. Mudd and Martz were both transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital. Mudd was later transported by ambulance to the University of Louisville Hospital. Martz was treated and released from Hardin Memorial. Sgt. Greg Hill is investigating the crash.
