Boys District Finals: Adair Co. 53. Taylor Co. 58 in OT Championship played before packed house. Both Teams advance to 5th Region Tournament in Munfordville, KY next week Special ColumbiaMagazine.com Sports Story The Taylor County Cardinals captured the 20th district title with a 58-53 overtime win over the Adair County Indians in front of a packed house at the Adair County High School, John Burr Memorial Gym. The game was close throughout. The score was tied 14 all after the first period. The Indians led 27-25 at halftime. Taylor rallied to tie the score 39 all after three periods. The score remained tied 49-49 at the end of regulation. Taylor out scored the Indians 9-4 in overtime to take the 58-53 decision. Adair County placed three players in double figures, Matt Fudge 16, Chance Melton 14, and Kel Stotts 12. Rounding out the scoring were Jake Hixson 5, Marshall Shelley 3, and Zach Hutchison 3. Melton pulled down 8 rebounds and dished out 6 assists. Shelley had 6 rebounds, Stotts 5 and Hixson 4. The Indians connected on 19-44 from the field, 3-12 from the three, and 12-15 from the charity stripe. The Cardinals connected on 18-35 from the field, 6-15 from the three, and 16-26 from the charity stripe. The Indians outrebounded the Cardinals 27-22 and committed only 6 turnovers compared to 9 by Taylor County. Both teams will advance to next weeks regional tournament at Hart County High School.
