WASHINGTON, DC - (Wed 18 Jul 2018) Congressman James Comer (KY-01) has been selected to serve on the conference committee tasked with negotiating a final version of the Farm Bill. While the House of Representatives and the Senate both passed a Farm Bill in late June, there are several key differences between the two versions that must be resolved before a final Farm Bill can be signed into law, providing Kentucky farmers the long-term certainty and security they need.

Adair FFA Chapter attends KY Leadership Training

During the week of July 9-13, 2018 Adair County FFA Chapter attended Kentucky Leadership Training center in Hardinsburg, KY for a week of FFA Camp. Members attended officer and committee chair training classes, participated in athletic and swimming events, and took part in many other activities to improve leadership skills.

CPD Officer Houk is new SRO for Cville Independent Schools

Officer Charlie Houk has been assigned to the SRO post for all CIS schools. He lives in Greensburg and has been an officer with Campbellsville Police Department since 2010. He also pastors a church in Greensburg.

Campbellsville Independent Schools' students will begin the 2018-2019 school year in a few weeks, and will see a new face in the hallways.

CIS has contracted with Campbellsville Police to employ a School Resource Officer, who will be stationed at the Campbellsville High School campus. Officer Charlie Houk has been assigned to the SRO post.

Bill Sublett and Donald Colvin went to work this week to make the show barn at Homeplace more comfortable for Saturday's performance of Shakespeare's The Two Gentlemen of Verona. They have added two large windows on the back side of the barn which will significantly improve air circulation. (Accompanying/linked photo). The play is part of the cooperation between Homeplace and Lindsey Wilson College' theater program led by the college's Director of Theater Robert Brock.

Director Robert Brock has adapted The Two Gentlemen of Verona to a Western Setting, making the Shakespeare in the Barn presentation all the more appropriate in the rustic setting.

Black Stallion Steakhouse expected to open around 1st of August
Adair County Judge Exectutive Mike Stephens, a partner in Pinewood Shopping Center, reported at the July 17, 2018, meeting that the Black Stallion Steakhouse, 202 Will Walker Road, Pinewood Shopping Center, Columbia, KY, is now fully staffed and that 30 employees are in training, with an expected opening around the first of August 2018.

Edmonton Bicentennial seeking decade themed floats

Fire destroys house in Millerfield area, Adair County, KY

Adair County Fire Department, 200 Merchant Street, Columbia, KY

The Adair County Fire Department responded to a house fire 1820 Millerfield Road at 1:48amCT on Wednesday morning, July 18, 2018.

Upon firefighters arrival the house was determined to be vacant and was totally engulfed in fire. The home was owned by Jonathon Gaskins and was a total loss. There were 13 firemen on the scene for approximately 2 hours.

Not long ago a guest on our radio show talked about playing baseball in the courthouse yard in Edmonton and how he bet that there was not another small town in the United States that allowed their courthouse yard to be used as an unofficial baseball field. "We broke out a few windows in the courthouse and a few car windows, too, but nobody said we had to stop."

18 different agencies respond to fire at Kingsford Charcoal

A Pulaski County company that makes charcoal for backyard grills is fighting a fire Wednesday, July 17, 2018.

Kingsford Manufacturing on U.S. 27 in Burnside reported a fire inside one of its manufacturing buildings, WLEX reports on its website.

In all, firefighters from 18 different agencies responded. A company spokesman told the station damage from the fire is relatively minor. No injuries were reported and the spokesman told WLEX the company will start up production later today.
