Some of fondest memories are of Columbia Graded and High

Comments re photo 48286 Favorite Old Postcard Columbia Graded High School

By Carol Salato Myers

The splendor of living during a simpler time

I, too, have this postcard along with two or three more. I found them at Meadow Hill Inn several years ago. If memory serves me correctly, the room to the right of the entrance on the first floor was Mrs. Mary Evelyn Walker's. She was my third grade teacher and one of my favorites.

One of my fondest memories was when I was in Mrs. Dudley's split class of 5th and 6th graders.

I was blessed to be in her class for two years. My Cocker Spaniel, Black Jack, walked with me to school almost every day. Mrs. Dudley let him come in the room and he would sit by my desk. He was obviously a very obedient dog, and I always thought Mrs. Dudley was so special for allowing a dog in the room.

Her room would have been on the left side of the school if you're looking at it from the front. The windows were level with the ground and there were times Black Jack would jump into the room through the open windows. When I relate this story to kids today, they are amazed. How I wish they could have experienced some of the splendor of living during a simpler time. - Carol S Myers
