Basketball: ACHS Varsity 58. Spencer County 53

Varsity Indians rally past Spencer County behind Chance Melton's 20 point performance. Indian JVs also win, 38-35

Special CM Sports story

The Adair County Indians battled back from an 11 point first half deficit and a nine point second half deficit to come away with a 58-53 victory Friday night, January 4, 2012 at Adair County High School. The win improved the Indians to 9-5 on the season while the Bears dropped to 8-6.

Chance Melton paced the Indians with 20 points on nine of 13 shooting from the field and two of three free throws. Matt Fudge tossed in 13 points including 11 fourth quarter points and six straight free throws in the closing seconds. Zachary Hutchison came off the bench and connected on three treys in the second half for nine points.

Tanner Pooler came off the bench and tossed in six points. Rounding out the scoring were Ty Bennett and Kel Stotts with five points each. Also seeing action for the Indians were Marshall Shelley, Jake Hixson, and Colton Back. Adair was without the services of Jayden Willis who is out with a back injury. Melton pulled down 11 rebounds and Fudge handed out five assists.

"We have been looking for a win over an opponent that we had to make some big plays down the stretch. We've also been looking for a win over a high quality opponent. I think we got both tonight against a good Spencer County team. Our guys deserve a lot of credit for hanging in their and battling even when things didn't look so good," said Indians coach Mark Fudge.

The Indians JV team came away with an exciting 38-35 win over Spencer County. After putting the Indians ahead 35-34 with two late free throws Colton Back connected on 25 footer just before the horn sounded giving the Indians the win.
