Supt. A.W. Reed gives teachers credit in Race to the Top win

Academics starring role in Adair County's Tradition of Excellence enhanced by success of Teacher supported initiative to join with GRREC consortium to go after additional Federal Funding. It's paid off magnificently. Neighboring school districts Campbellsville Indiependent, Green County, Metcalfe County, and Russell County participated with equal zeal - a big financial boost fell the region's way

By Ed Waggener

Only the dedicated teachers of Adair County can be happier than Superintendent Allen Reed at the news yesterday, Adair other area GRECC counties will benefit from share of $400 million grant about the big story of the day that the Green River Region Education Cooperative and a consortium it organized was one of just 16 applications nationwide scheduled to receive additional funding from the U.S. Department of Education.

Before Adair County committed to the effort, he asked for a vote on the matter, and received overwhelming, enthusiastic support.

"Our teachers committed early--- knowing that while the initiative will require more work of them, students would benefit," he said. "Without the 97% YES vote from our teachers to participate, we would not be receiving this kind of great news today. I don't think anybody in Adair County can ever say that our teachers aren't committed to improving education in this county.

"Much emphasis will go towards personalizing instruction, more Science, Technology, Engineering and Math instruction (known as STEM), and a strong emphasis on career and technical education. Race to the Top monies will help put Adair County Schools at the forefront of school districts with sights set on excellence."
