LWC Men's Soccer drops two spots in NAIA postseason rankings By Dan White COLUMBIA, KY - A loss in the NAIA National Championship semifinals dropped the previously top-ranked Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer team two spots to No. 3 in the NAIA Coaches' Top-25 Postseason Poll, national office officials announced on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. The Blue Raiders (22-2) had won 12 straight games, including three in the national championship, before falling to Belhaven (Jackson, MS) 1-0 in the semifinals on a late goal from 35-yards out in the last 30 seconds of the game. The Blazers, who went on to win the program's second national title, are the top-ranked team in the postseason poll. The top nod is the first for Belhaven since the polls began in 2000. Rio Grande (Rio Grande, Ohio) is the only other Mid-South Conference member ranked at No. 9. The Blue Raiders had been either No. 1 or No. 2 in the poll for the past 20 weeks. Lindsey Wilson's 22 wins were the most in the NAIA this season. Lindsey Wilson left the championship with some individual hardware as senior Lebogang Moloto was named the offensive most valuable player and Sicelo Buthelezi made the all-tournament team. Buthelezi, Moloto, Eddy Campbell, Yazeed Davids and Yuta Nomura all earned NAIA All-America honors as well. - Dan White This story was posted on 2012-12-06 06:45:54
