from the Dublin, Ireland News Journal, April 10, 1742:
Announcing the upcoming performance of George Frederick Handel's new work: MESSIAH. "We kindly request that the Ladies who honour this Performance with their Presence would be pleased to come without Hoops, as it will greatly encrease the charity, by making Room for more company. Also that the Gentlemen are desired to come without their Swords, again for the purpose of making more room to encrease the Charity."

Lindsey Wilson College Choral Ensembles with the Commonwealth Musicians and YOU! present selections from Handel's beloved masterwork at 7pmCT, Monday, December 3, 2012 at Columbia Baptist Church, 201 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Patterned after Messiah sing-alongs in which the audience joins in singing the choral sections. Choral books will be available for rental or purchase at the performance. - Gerald Chaffin
