Driver flees ACSO in College Park area, hits tree

Effort to stop vehicle started on Lowe's Lane, continues on Pleasantview; Chase ends when fleeing vehicle hits tree at 806 Wright Drive

Charles S. McFarland, 33 years old, of 315 Magnolia Drive, Columbia KY was arrested at 3:14pm, Tuesday, November 20, 2012, after a short pursuit in the city limits of Columbia.

At approximately 2:40pmCT, Deputy Aaron Rainwater of the Adair County Sheriff Office was attempting to stop a 1989 Ford Mustang on Lowe's Lane.




Deputy Rainwater observed 33 year old Charles McFarland turn off of Pleasantview Drive and enter into oncoming lane of traffic and nearly strike another vehicle.

When Deputy Rainwater attempted to stop him, McFarland fled. McFarland led Deputy Rainwater on a short chase before losing control of his vehicle striking a tree at 806 Wright Drive.

McFarland faces these charges:
  • 3 counts of disregarding stop sign
  • 3 counts fail to signal
  • reckless driving
  • Operating Motor Vehicle on suspended operator license
  • failure to maintain required insurance 2nd offence
  • fleeing or evading police 1st degree (motor vehicle)
  • failure to wear seat belt
  • failure to register/transfer motor vehicle
McFarland was treated for facial injuries at Westlake Regional Hospital and lodged in the Adair County Jail. Deputy Rainwater was assisted on the scene by Columbia City Police and Adair County Sheriff Harrison Moss.
