LWC opens NAIA Women's Soccer Championship with Park

Blue Raiders will play first round of National Championship here, at Reuling

News from Lindsey Wilson College

COLUMBIA, KY - Making its 14th straight appearance in the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship, Lindsey Wilson College earned the No. 2 seed and hosts Park (Parkersville, MO) University in the opening round on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. Game time will be announced on Tuesday, November 13, 2012.

The Blue Raiders are meeting the Pirates for the sixth time in program history. Park leads the all-time series 3-2, but Lindsey Wilson took a 7-0 win in the last meeting in 2003 in St. Louis, MO.

Park (12-6-0) qualified for this year's championship by winning the American Midwest Conference Tournament championship on Thursday. The Pirates added a goal in the 101st minute to beat Columbia (Columbia, MO) College in overtime.

Lindsey Wilson earned an at-large invitation to the field based on its ranking in the NAIA's modified ratings percentage index (MRPI). The Blue Raiders came up short in the Mid-South Conference Championship, losing to Cumberland (Lebanon, TN.) 2-1 on Saturday.

The Blue Raiders (15-4-1) are 23-12-2 all time in the NAIA Championship, including a perfect 4-0 mark in the opening round once the NAIA did away with pool play in 1999. The two-time national champion Blue Raiders have been the No. 2 seed twice, posting a 6-1 record in 2006 and 2007.

Park is making its first appearance in the field since 2008 and its ninth championship bid overall. The Pirates are 4-9-2 all-time in NAIA play with their best finish being national runners-up in 1994.
