Billy Joe Fudge calls G. Kolbenshlag tree vine: Bittersweet The exact one would need the answer to question: Thorns or No Thorns? By Billy Joe Fudge Once again I am going to take a chance by coming down out of the trees and hazard a guess in an effort to answer George's question. I believe this plant to be bittersweet. One of two kinds can usually be identified by this rule of thumb: no thorns - American Bittersweet, thorns - Oriental Bittersweet. American is as one might suppose a native plant and of course and once again we can thank our friends in the Orient for the thorny invasive. Both are beautiful plants in the landscape but are in most cases a slow death to trees. I would assume that this "beauty and the beast" quality might be the source of it's oxymoron name. - Billy Joe Fudge Comments re photo 47462 Whats This Tree like vine with beautiful Christmasy berries This story was posted on 2012-11-09 19:52:07
