HallowRead - 2012: Over 900 in attendance this year A thank you from the organizers of HallowRead - 2012 And the Goblins will get you if you don't watch out! By Ellen Zornes Last evening, Monday, October 22, 2012, Adair County Elementary School (ACES) was overrun by creatures of the night as approximately 900 ghosts, goblins, super heroes, fairies, cowboys and several princesses and their parents joined in the fun of this year's community wide HallowRead. Everyone had a howling good time as we feasted on pizza and candy and visited the many enchanting reading and activity rooms. We also had lots of middle school, high school and Lindsey Wilson College Education Division students as well as adults who read, painted faces, and led activities for our younger community children. Weird Scientist, Susan Peck, and her apprentices, Noah Richard and Alison Feese, entertained the crowd with their many feats of science showing us how much fun chemistry really is. We appreciate everyone who helped make last night's HallowRead so much fun and would like to thank the many volunteers (students and adults) who gave of their time to make our 9th annual HallowRead such a success: ACHS Cheerleaders; ACHS Chemistry Students (aka Weird Scientists); ACHS Beta/National Honor Society; ACHS FCCLA Club; ACHS Jr. Ag Officers; ACHS Library Service Learners; ACMS Beta Club; ACMS Library Club; Adair County Public Library; Lindsey Wilson College Bonner Leaders; Lindsey Wilson College Education Division; Title I Reading; Mary Knight, Mary Sharpe and Lucille Lemon who keep the food coming and of course, the fine folks at Adair County Elementary School for allowing us the use of their school as well as helping get it all together. And a special thank you to our community business partners for making the evening possible and for always believing in our kids: IGA Food Store; Pizza Hut; Sonic; the local media. We could not do these extra and fun events without your help...you are greatly appreciated. And to our parents and grandparents for taking the time and effort to allow your child to be part of HallowRead! So, "Until next year, my pretties...keep reading and have a safe Halloween!" - Ellen Zornes This story was posted on 2012-10-23 12:06:17
