COLUMBIA, KY - Area children can get started on Halloween a day earlier this year.

Lindsey Wilson College's 19th-annual "Safe Halloween" will be held from 6pm-8pmCT, Tuesday, October 30. The event -- which is free and open to the public -- allows area children to trick-or-treat through LWC residence halls. Children and their guardians will begin their "Safe Halloween" journey in the LWC Cralle Student Union Building, 420 Helen Flatt Drive, Columbia, KY.

LWC students lead area children and their guardians through the college's residence halls. The halls' residents, many of whom are also in costume, hand out candy to children. All items distributed are individually wrapped, pre-packaged, store-bought candy. The tour takes about 45 minutes.

A total of six residence hall will participate in the program, and halls will be decorated in a variety of themes. The event is sponsored by LWC Residence Life and Student Activities.

"By the time they reach the end of their journey, students have a lot of candy to take home," said LWC Student Activities Director Jayne Hopkins. "It's a fun, safe event that's become a big LWC tradition."

In addition to collecting candy, children also enjoy seeing the residence halls' creative decorations.

"Children always enjoy seeing the different themes the residence halls select each year," Hopkins said. "A lot of Lindsey Wilson faculty and staff tour the halls before 'Safe Halloween' begins because they enjoy seeing the halls' decorations as well."

Children and their guardians will begin their "Safe Halloween" journey in the LWC Cralle Student Union Building, 420 Helen Flatt Drive, where LWC students will offer a variety of activities, including face-painting.

"I've already have at least 10 Lindsey Wilson students ask if they help with the face-painting because that's one of the more popular activities," Hopkins said. Lindsey Wilson College's 19th-annual "Safe Halloween" will be from 6pm-8pmCT Tuesday, October 30, 2012.
