Forecast today, cool and pleasant - more of the same tomorrow!

Commentary on the weather. Glad to see this summer gone - even if technically the autumnal equinox not yet here.
By Barbara Armitage

Is it just me or is there anyone else out there glad to be bidding adieu to this summer's weather?

To be technical, fall - the autumnal equinox won't be until September 22nd at 11:49 CDT but I will gladly take this weather a couple of weeks early.

Usually I can "suffer through" the heat of July and August but this year the relentless heat and humidity began in May. By July and temperatures soaring above 100 degrees I had begun to long for the old days of summer when the mercury could reach a cool 90 degrees.

The Finnish are generally given credit for the invention of the sauna - a device I have never understood but look where I live. If the Finns had lived in Kentucky I bet they would have invented the air conditioner.

I remember hearing that it was possible to "sweat off" weight during a hard workout. Well I've worked hard every day in the garden this summer and sweated enough to fill a small lake and haven't lost a single pound. If it were actually possible to lose weight by sweating I would weigh in at about 75 pounds by now.

So for those of you who are fond of wishing for the old days, please don't wish for the return of the summer of 2012. I'm tired of washing two loads of sweaty stinky clothes a day and I'm almost out of sunscreen.

Is it just me or is anyone else looking forward to fall?
