News from Lindsey Wilson College

PORTSMOUTH, OH - The top-ranked Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer team remained perfect on the season with a 2-0 win over Shawnee State (OH) University

The game was played at Shawnee Turf.

While scoring was harder to come by on Monday - the Blue Raiders scored eight goals in each of their first two games - Lindsey Wilson continued its dominance of possession and shots.

Maintaining the play for more than 80-percent of the game and out-shooting the host Bears 31-4, Lindsey Wilson cruised to its 26th straight win -- longest active streak in the NAIA.

The Blue Raiders improve to 3-0 overall and 3-0 in the Mid-South Conference with the win. Shawnee State falls to 0-1 on the season and in the conference.

Lindsey Wilson sophomore Philip Sandgren continued his torrid scoring pace with a goal in the 14th minute to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead. The goal -- Sandgren's NAIA-leading sixth of the season -- came off Yazeed Davids' team-leading third assist this season.

While the Blue Raiders had a number of chances to add to their score, Shawnee State goalkeeper Thomas Carbonari turned away shot after shot. Carbonari finished with eight saves in the first half and 12 for the match.

Lindsey Wilson finally broke through in the 61st minute with an insurance goal as sophomore Tom Moody was tripped up in the penalty area awarding the Blue Raiders a penalty kick.

Senior Lebogang Moloto took advantage as he sent his kick down the middle past Carbonari to give Lindsey Wilson the 2-0 lead.

That would be all the goal support goalkeeper Yuta Nomura and the Blue Raider defense would need. Nomura recorded his first individual clean sheet of the season and his 15th career shutout finishing with two saves.
