Olene Blakey, Russell County, KY (1936-2012)

She was the matriarch of a large, talented Russell County, KY family and the widow of William Bascum Blakey. She leaves 25 direct living descendants. She was a homemaker and a member of the Beckham Ridge Separate Baptist Church

Olene Blakey, 75, Fair Oaks Drive, Jamestown, KY, died at her residence on Friday, August 17, 2012.

Funeral services will be at 2pmCT, Sunday, August 19, 2012, at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Garnett Hammond officiating and special singing by the Blakey Quartet. Burial will be in the Blakey Cemetery in Russell County, KY. Visitation will be after 5pmCT, Saturday, August 18, 2012, at the funeral home.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Beckham Ridge Separate Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bascum Blakey, and a sister, Geraldine Hopper.

She was survived by the following:
  • Seven children: Larry (Barbara) Popplewell, Randall (Brenda) Blakey, Michael Blakey, and Teresa (Dean) Elroy, all of Russell Springs, KY; and Sheila (Brad) Heathman, and Carolyn Brian) Varney, both of Jamestown, KY, and Regina (Steve) Triplett, Maysville, GA

  • Nine grandchildren

  • Nine great grandchildren

  • One sister: Juanita Kerr, Jamestown, KY
The family requests memorials to Blakey Cemetery. These can be made at the Bernard Funeral Home.
