Whittney Ford urges hiring of 3rd Ag teacher

By Whittney Ford
Personal commentary by the writer

My name is Whittney Ford,a member and past senior officer,I agree with Amber Akers on this; we deserve a 3rd agricultural teacher. As a senior at ACHS and an AG senior, being without a teacher has left us seniors lost and looking for a way to change things.

In the past years,we have seen the seniors in the classroom taking notes on how to weld and working with small engines and then going to the shop and learning to weld, and now that Mr.Harvey is gone we have to sit in the classroom and take notes on a topic we understand nothing about!

Our agriculutural classes are supposed to be more hands on than anything; you learn more that way, but with a substitute teacher you can't.

Our AG class and FFA Chapter have had a huge effect on this community, and by taking our class away that's taking a big part of our lives away.

I can say myself that being a 4th year member of Adair County FFA, that I have learned a lot about leadership, and being a part of something bigger than yourself, and standing up for what you believe in, so that's what I'm doing.

Our FFA Chapter is bigger than just a bunch of high school students learning about animals, welding, etc. It's about making a difference in the community,by helping farmers, being involved in contests across the state, and volunteering our time at local events such as TSC, Day & Day Feed, Outdoor Expos, and the Heritage Festival.

As a senior I realize that not only is this effecting my class, but the class of those younger members who endure a future in agricultural,by changing our class, you are changing the future of agriculture! So please, past FFA members, family members, local farmers and supporters. Come support us Monday August 20,2012 at 3:15pmCT at the Site-Base Meeting in the ACHS Library, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. - Whittney Ford
