Jon Halsey asks: Exactly what are we being asked to fund Comments on Comments re article 53624 Guest Editorial The County Needs a Hospital Now and Forever By Jon Halsey The author makes some excellent points. However, For the life of me I can't find anywhere on CM's pages or in the local print media where a single soul has even remotely suggested that we do not need a hospital. It is true that more than one has suggested that the future financial survival of this community may in fact depend on our willingness to determine what level of hospital service we need. It should be obvious that the long standing monthly shortfall cannot continue yet it seems that most folks are intent on convincing others that the community needs to step up to the plate and continue to eat that debt month after month into the future. I do not understand the resistance to trying to determine what type of facility we need. This should have been item one on the Charter from the Board to the outside management firm they hired. Do we need a level 3 Trauma Center or will a standard emergency room handle our needs? If these issues have been addressed - where is the information. What exactly is it that we are being asked to fund? Is it an institution that has been mismanaged administratively and financially for years? Or is it a hospital that meets our needs today and will continue to do so in the future? What steps and protocols need to be taken to before we pour more money down the deep hole. Due to the rampant mismanagement we need to know the soundness of the physical facility as well as the soundness and operability of equipment. It may well be that the amount of money that the citizens are being asked to fork over is in fact only a drop in the bucket compared to what may be really needed to keep this facility operable. It that is the case, then lets get to it and not inflict a tortuous death by a thousand continuing cuts only to end up with nothing to show for our efforts. --Jon Halsey, KnifleyComments re article 53624 Guest Editorial The County Needs a Hospital Now and Forever This story was posted on 2012-08-09 12:43:07
