Comment: LifePoint having plans for hospital isn't reassuring

By Peggy Fudge
Personal Commentary

A recent article by Paul Hayes in The Adair Progress has Ken Doran explaining that the deal for the hospital is still on the table. Doran refers to a comment from Sam Hutchison, a LifePoint representative, indicating that LifePoint has plans for south central Kentucky. -- I don't find this idea reassuring. I think we ought to know more about LifePoint's plans before we complete this transaction.

My questions are:
  1. What is LifePoint's plan for south central Kentucky?
  2. Just how does Westlake fit into those plans?
  3. Will Westlake remain an acute care hospital?
  4. Is LifePoint willing to make a statement of what they intend to do with Westlake?
  5. What patient services will they continue to provide?
  6. How important to LifePoint is Westlake's Certificate of Need?
  7. How many of the jobs at Westlake will be lost due to outsourcing?
  8. What has LifePoint done with and for other hospitals?
I realize when the hospital sells, the buyer will be free to do whatever (within the limits of applicable regulations).

But I think most of us think things will go on much as they have for years, with the same services and care available.

I wonder if this is wishful thinking on our part. Is there anyone who can or will respond to these questions? - Peggy Fudge
