Donald Leon Coomer, Adair Co., KY (1941-2012)

He was the patriarch of a very large, respected Adair County, KY, family. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a truck driver and had been in the excavation business.

Donald Leon Coomer age 71 years of Columbia, KY passed away Tuesday July 31, 2012 at 4:25pmCT, at Westlake Regional Hospital after an illness.

Funeral services are Friday, August 3, 2012 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Jessie Hagan the officiating clergy. Interment in Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 3:30 P.M. Thursday, August 2, 2012.



Donald Leon Coomer, Adair Co., KY (1941-2012)

He was born on Saturday, May 31, 1941 in Adair County, KY. He was the son of the late Vanus and Willie Pearl Shaw Coomer. He died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 71 years, 2 months.

He was preceded in death by one son and one brother, David Coomer and Kirby Coomer.

He is survived by his wife: Betty Jackson Coomer; they were married on August 2, 1993. He is also survived by the following:
  • One daughter: Donna Janes of Columbia, KY
  • One son: Barry Coomer and wife Melissa of Columbia, KY

  • Step-daughters: Lesa Hagan and husband Richard; and Sheila Forsee

  • Step-son: Randy Forsee and special friend Melissa

  • Three brothers: Johnny Coomer, Tony Coomer and Jerry Coomer of Louisville, KY

  • One sister: Rebecca Crawhorn of Louisville, KY

  • Grandchildren: Brandon Coomer, Adam Coomer, Leslie Thewlis, Meagan Coomer,Brittany Janes, Alex Janes, Kierra Pickens, Lisa Hadley, Laura Coomer,Jordan Coomer, Abigail Coomer, Melanie Coomer and Keaton Coomer

  • Step-grandchildren: Courtney Martin, Wichita Owens, Trisha Koenig, Nikki Sexton, Patrick Hagan, Brooke Forsee, Tara Mota and Ally Forsee
  • Two step grandchildren: Josslyn and McKenzie Turner

  • Thirteen great grandchildren

  • Eight step great grandchildren

  • Special friends: Richard and Kaye Butler

  • Several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends survive
Donald was of the Methodist faith. He was a truck driver and did excavating work.
