Says stinging caterpillar called a Pack Saddle Brenda Wooldridge writes: I don't know if I am correct with this name, but I had always heard them called a "pack saddle." Why I don't know. And yes when they sting, the pain is severe for a while. I have encountered them in corn and beans that were staked high.
