LWC Appalachian Play Therapy Center holds annual Conference Click on headline for complete story with photo By Duane Bonifer News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College Appalachian Play Therapy Center recently held its fourth-annual conference on the college's A.P. White Campus. The highlight of this year's conference was guest speaker Eric Green. Green is an assistant professor at the University of North Texas at Dallas, where he teaches courses in play therapy and is the director of the university's community counseling center. Green shared his expertise, insights and personal stories about his experiences with play therapy with the several dozen mental health professionals who attended the conference. Much of Green's work is based around theories of the legendary Swiss psychologist Carl Jung. The agenda of this year's conference included talks on Jungian Play Therapy as well as Jungian Sandplay with children and mandalas. The mission of the LWC Appalachian Play Therapy Center -- which is directed by Associate Professor of Counseling and Human Development Jodi Crane -- is to foster the mental health and development of children and families, especially those in the U.S. Appalachian region, through the processes of play and play therapy. In addition to its annual conference, the LWC Appalachian Play Therapy Center provides play therapy services, offers play therapy training and supervision to students in SPC and mental health professionals, advances play therapy research, and promotes play and play therapy in the community. The LWC Appalachian Play Therapy Center is an "Approved Center of Play Therapy Education" by the Association for Play Therapy. For more information about the LWC program, contact Crane at cranejo@lindsey.edu or 270-384-8155. - Duane Bonifer This story was posted on 2012-07-19 04:47:02
