Rebecca Montgomery No. 1 in World; ACHS FPS finishes in top 10 HEROES: Emmalee Baker, Roslin Wilson, Kyle Castaneda, and Sarah McQuaide, and Rebecca Montgomery. Rebecca Montgomery's finish as Best Overall Writer is also Adair's first time achieving this feat, and it is the first time a Kentucky writer has been awarded this since the team first advanced to this competition. Adair County is only team in Kentucky to to have finished in Top 10 for six years in a row! Competition held at Indiana University, Bloomington. Click on headline for story with photo(s) By Chad Parnell News from the Adair County Academic Team The Adair County Future Problem Solving team completed the 2012 International Championships on June 7-June 10, 2012, with another set of world-class trophies to add to their list of accomplishments. The team captured another Top 10 finish at the competition, placing 9th overall. In addition, Rebecca Montgomery finished in 1st Place in the On-Site Scenario Writing competition. Montgomery was also named the Best Overall Writer in her division. The team's accomplishments this weekend add two more records to the team's list of impressive feats. The team's finish in the Top 10 is now the sixth year in a row Adair County has placed among the top ten teams worldwide. Adair is now the only team in Kentucky to have earned this accomplishment in the past six years among the state's advancing high school and middle school teams. Members placing in the Top 10 were Emmalee Baker, Roslin Wilson, Kyle Castaneda, and Sarah McQuaide. Rebecca Montgomery's finish as Best Overall Writer is also Adair's first time achieving this feat, and it is the first time a Kentucky writer has been awarded this since the team first advanced to this competition.Teams from five continents comprised the gauntlet of competition this year at Internationals. Not only were over 40 of the 50 U.S. states represented, but the competition also featured teams from China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Portugal, South Africa, and others. Advancement to Internationals starts at the local District level each year in January, and teams work their their way through Regional and State championship events. Montgomery advanced at the Kentucky State Champion in Scenario Writing earlier in March. The FPS team placed 3rd at Governor's Cup this year to earn a Kentucky at-large bid to attend, and while at Internationals, Adair finished higher than the two teams that had edged them at State. In addition, the event was attended by Leane Blackwelder, who was Kentucky's representative in FPS Individual competition after placing 2nd in the state behind teammate Kyle Castaneda in March. Amber Turner was the team's representative in the FPS Alternates competition. Turner also finished 1st in March's Governor's Cup Championships in her division.
