LWC's Slapeka named NAIA All-American, 4th year in row Trina Slapeka (LWC File Photos) By Chris Wells News from Lindsey Wilson College KANSAS CITY, MO - Lindsey Wilson College senior Trina Slapeka has earned her fourth straight National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics First-Team All-American honor, NAIA officials announced on Sunday, May 20, 2012. Slapeka closes her Lindsey Wilson career as the first LWC womens tennis student-athlete to earn NAIA First-Team All-American honors four straight seasons. She adds the honor to her Mid-South Conference Player of the Year honor -- her fourth straight -- and first-team all-conference honor. This season, Slapeka recorded a 16-2 singles record playing all 18 matches as the Blue Raiders top singles seed. She finished with an 18-3 doubles mark playing all 21 matches on LWCs top doubles team. Slapeka is one of 16 women to earn first-team honors. Lindsey Wilsons Diana Gerlakh, Slavica Milanovic and Laura Vergara were members of the 21-woman honorable mention team. Gerlakh posted a 15-5 singles record and a 17-4 doubles record during the season. She was also named the MSC Freshman of the Year this season. Milanovic finished with a 16-3 singles record while teaming with Slapeka to post an 18-3 doubles record on the Blue Raiders top doubles team. Vergara closed the season with a 15-2 record as the fourth-seed singles and a 16-4 doubles mark as Gerlakhs doubles partner. The quartet helped Lindsey Wilson finished 2011 with a 17-4 record, including winning the MSC regular season and tournament championships. The Blue Raiders season ended with a quarterfinal loss in the NAIA National Tournament. - Chris Wells This story was posted on 2012-05-21 11:51:50
