Greatest interest in 3-way District 15 KY Senate Seat race

Commentary: Even Democrats should Roust the Republicans and get them all to the polls today and tomorrow: Adair County has a chance to make the difference in this year's Senate race to succeed native son Vernie McGaha. Russell County turnout, too, could affect race, with higher turnout expected because of the Circuit Court Clerk's race there, where incumbent Tony Kerr faces a challenge by Jacky D. Burton and Jean Waddell.

The Absentee voting machine open 8amCT. Clerk's Office. 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY. For qualified voters who will be out of county Election day, May 22, 2012.

Polls will be open throughout Adair County and the rest of Kentucky from 6am-6pm, local time, tomorrow, May 22, 2012 in what is expected to be one of the lightest votes in history.

The lesson from 2010

Remembering the lesson from 2010, when Adair County Republicans failed to roll tanks for favorite daughter Hilda Legg, CM urges every Adair Countian to vote by absentee today or tomorrow at voting precincts.

In 2010, Hilda Legg lost statewide by only 1,097. If just a small fraction more of the 8,200-plus Republicans had voted in that election, she would have been the nominee. While 2010 was generally a good year for Democrats, most political observers believe she would have been a much better candidate for the Republicans.

Had Adair County Republicans just turned out with just a fraction more of their voters, Legg would have been the winner Statewide

The opportunity for Adair Countians to have a big voice in the selection of next Kentucky Senator from Adair, Casey, Russell and Pulaski is huge.

Over half of Republican vote is in Pulaski County

The majority of the eligible Republicans, 29,624, live in Pulaski County.

The other three counties, in order of Republican Registration, have a total of 26,133 voters: Russell, 9,608; Casey, 8,291; and Adair, 8,234.

All three candidates still live in the race, Mark Polston, Chris Girdler, and A.C. Donohue are all from Somerset. Conventional wisdom has been that Girdler, whose backing comes from the Hal Rogers organization, and whose campaign has raised approximately 10 times the money Mark Polston has, is a sure winner.

However, the endorsement of Polston, who is pastor of the Free Union Separate Baptist Church in Adair County, near the Russell County line, by Senator McGaha and Todd Hoskins of Casey County, KY, has changed the dynamics of the race.

Polston supporters believe that turnout in the western counties will make all the difference, and that Polston can use the original Vernie McGaha campaign of getting a strong vote in Pulaski and landslide majorities in Adair, Casey, and Russell.

There are local races in Pulaski County which could create more interest in the race there, and, from reports, benefit Chris Girdler.

A.C. Donahue, also from Pulaski County, has visited Columbia on a number of occasions for political meetings and to visit his daughter, a student at Lindsey Wilson College.

But Polston supporters think that a hot Circuit Court primary in Russell County, where incumbent Tony Kerr is being challenged in the Republican primary by Jacky D. Burton and Jean Waddell, will bring out an even larger percentage of Republican voters, favoring Polston.
