Boxtops made the difference Click on headline for full story and photo(s) By Patty Jones, Principal Col. Wm. Casey Elementary School Over the past several years the students, families and staff at Col. Wm. Casey have collected boxtops from various products. The Boxtops for Education program started out with just General Mills cereals and quickly expanded to include a wide range of products from cereal to frozen foods to Ziploc bags and more. Over the years the program has donated over $22,000 dollars to the school. In the beginning the funds went to purchase mainly Accelerated Reader materials and Ellison Press items to help with instructional materials at the school. However, as time passed the program expanded to fund technology, art supplies and PE equipment. This past year the school earned $3,200 from Boxtop collections. This is the highest total for one year so far. The main reason behind the success of the program is Ms. Inette Goodin, Speech and Language Pathologist at the school. She, along with her assistant, Ruth Redmon, organize and promote the program school wide. This year they have conducted promotions and drawings to thank students and their families for saving the boxtops from products in their home. The money raised this year went to purchase iPads, iPad covers, document cameras, Accucut equipment, Kindles, Scooters and new hula hoops, among other things. This program is truly a "money for nothing" endeavor. Simply by saving things from items that you already purchase you can earn money for Col. Wm. Casey Elementary. If you would like to know more about the program you can go to the website, www.boxtopsforeducation.com for a list of items that are included. We encourage our community to support our schools by saving these precious pieces of paper and plastic. In addition to this program CWC also collects Coke MyReward Points at the school. You can send your points in or donate them to our school at their website www.mycokerewards.com. - Patty R. Jones, Principal, Col. Wm. Casey Elementary School, 220 Gen.
