Nettie Coomer, Adair Co., KY (1926-2012)

She was a native of and resident of Adair County, KY. She was the matriarch of a highly regarded family with many relatives in South Central Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan. She leaves 21 direct living descendants. and one foster son. She was a member of Columbia Baptist Church. She had retired after a career spanning 43 years at Rockwell Standard in Chicago, Illinois.

Nettie Coomer, age 85 years of Columbia, KY passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Laingsburg, Michigan after an illness.

Funeral services are Monday, May 14, 2012 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Randy Copeland the officiating clergy. Interment will be in the Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. The family requests visiting after 3pmCT, on Sunday, May 13, 2012m, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

She was born Tuesday, December 21, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Ada Wilson Compton. She died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, in Laingsburg, Shiawassee County, Michigan, at the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 19 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Noble Coomer on August 27, 2001.

She is survived by the following:
  • One daughter: Bridget Wing and husband Marshall of Laingsburg, Michigan

  • Two step daughters: Margie Baker of Columbia, KY; and Lillie Stevens and husband Paul of Columbia, KY

  • One foster son: Terry Strunk of Anna, Illinois

  • One brother: Tony Compton of French Lick, Indiana

  • Two sisters: Clara Compton of Glasgow, KY, and Annie Catherine Logston of Edmonton, KY

  • Eight grandchildren

  • Nine great grandchildren,

  • Three great grandchildren

  • Several nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends
She was preceded in death by a step son, Sellas Coomer, by two brothers, Robert Compton and Dencil Compton and by two sisters Elsie Nance and Florence Herald.

Mrs. Coomer was a member of the Columbia Baptist Church and worked at Rockwell Standard in Chicago, Illinois for 43 years.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to the Columbia Baptist Church, American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society and may be left at the funeral home.
