Speaking Through Silence completes successful month

Autism Awareness Benefit Concert at the Columbian Theater raises $1,661 for Autism Awareness. STS will continue with events throughout the year

News from Speaking Through Silence

Throughout the month of April Speaking Through Silence has been bringing about awareness of Autism to the City of Columbia and the County of Adair and South Central Kentucky and the world via social media. The month began with a proclamation from Mayor Mark Harris and Judge Executive Ann Melton declaring Autism Awareness Month in the city of Columbia and the County of Adair.



Speaking Through Silence then had three booths set up every Tuesday, with Autism Awareness Facts and fundraising items . These booths were set up at Holloway Health and Wellness Center, 299 Williams St. Columbia, KY on Lindsey Wilson College's Campus, Cafe on The Square, 212 W. Columbia St., Columbia, KY, and McDonald's 980 Jamestown Rd. Columbia, KY. The group also had fundraisers at Pizza Hut and waited tables at Fiesta Mexico.All of these events led up to the Autism Awareness Benefit Concert at The Columbian Theater where 125 people attended and $1,661 was raised with various people from the community helping out and singers from The Dream Depot and Lindsey Wilson College. The Event was a huge success.

The Show consisted of the following performers:
Gary Samuell, Jackie Spurlock, Jennifer Biggs, Neal Sneed, RobCollins, Mackie Jo Pennington, Holly Burton, Yulanda Bradshaw, Judy Somerville, Becky Taylor, Ruby Sayard, Janice Overstreet, Rob Collins, Shawn Samuell, Robbie Morrison, Richie Symmes, Greg Blair, and Nicole Burton.
The event was opened with Co Founders of Speaking Through Silence Antoine Rouse and Brittany Pike. Throughout the night interspersed within the performances were various Autism facts. There was also a Silent Auction, Raffle Drawing, and door prizes.

Stage was set for Autism Awareness Concert

The Stage was set with dramatic lighting, with the locally designed banner for a backdrop. The concert drew 125 people, and raised $1,661. Many performers and donors from throughout the community made the event such as big success. - Greg Blair
