News from Lindsey Wilson College

DANVILLE, KY- For the third straight season, Lindsey Wilson College has blocked Campbellsville (KY) from winning a Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship.

After losing to the Tigers 11-7 in Saturday's first game, the Blue Raiders responded in the elimination game with five home runs to win the MSC Championship with a run-rule shortened 20-2 decision in five innings.

The win assures Lindsey Wilson (46-10) of its third straight trip to the NAIA National Championship on May 17-23, 2012 in Gulf Shores, AL.

To get there it had to win the hard way after Campbellsville (37-22) made Saturday's "if-necessary" game necessary with a win in game one.

The Tigers scored two runs in the second inning on an error by second baseman Jane Egiazarova and made things worse in the third with five more runs on three errors.

Lindsey Wilson finished with four errors in the game and never got closer than a four-run deficit after falling behind 5-0 early. Shortstop Jordan Gilland and third baseman Emily Priar both hit home runs late in the game, but there was never a strong enough rally to get back in the game.

After going into the sixth inning down just 8-4, Campbellsville's Kristin Benton hit a devastating three-run shot to make sure Gilland's own three-run shot in the bottom half of the inning didn't gain the Tigers any ground.

Cara Law was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs on two hits, while Courtney Turpin earned the complete-game win, allowing seven runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.

Whatever high the Tigers were on after giving Lindsey Wilson its first loss of the tournament quickly faded as the Blue Raiders exploded for nine first-inning runs in the final game.

Shortstop Jamie Williams hit a three-run homer in the inning, designated player Amy Buwalda added a solo shot and second baseman Jordan Gilland popped another three-run homer over the fence to put Campbellsville on its heels the rest of the day.

Third baseman Bailey Dillender put the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run shot but the bats would not respond again as Campbellsville finished with just two runs.

Lindsey Wilson, on the other hand, scored four more runs in the second inning and seven in the fifth to reach 20 on the day.

The Blue Raiders hit five home runs in all with Priar leading the way at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Right fielder Andrea Whelan had three hits for three RBIs and first baseman Brittney Novickis tallied three hits in the eight spot.

Kristina Krupinski earned the win in the circle, throwing a complete five innings with two runs allowed on just four hits with three strikeouts.
