Lindsey Wilson Softball plays winner of Campbellsville/St. Catharine garme on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 10amCT, at at Millenium Park, 1000 Cunningham Way, Danville, KY, for the Mid South Conference Title By Dan White News from Lindsey Wilson College, DANVILLE, KY - Call it the wind or whatever you like, but the truth is Lindsey Wilson College struggled to keep a ball in the park, belting five home runs to lift itself past St. Catharine (Saint Catharine, KY) 8-4 on Friday, April 27, 2012, in the Mid South Conference Softball Tournament at Millennium Park. For the third straight season the Blue Raiders have advanced to the championship round of the tournament. This year - like in 2010 - they are undefeated in the postseason, meaning whichever team they face will have to beat them twice to claim the title with the double-elimination format. Campbellsville (KY) and St. Catharine play at 4pmCT on Friday, April 27, 2012 for the right to face Lindsey Wilson at 10 a.m., on Saturday. The "if-necessary" game would take place at Noon bearing a Blue Raider loss. Against the Patriots on Friday afternoon the Blue Raiders led 6-0 after three innings, scoring two in each frame. The scoring was all from home runs, five in all, including one from a surprising source. Right fielder Alexis Rodgers, a consistent slapper at the top of the order, found a ball to take a full swing at and connected for her first career homer to give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead. Third baseman Emily Priar made it back-to-back long balls and Brittney Novickis took a page out of Rodgers' book in the second, belting her first home run as a Blue Raider to add two more scores. Left fielder Andrea Whelan and catcher Josie Cox finished off the home-run spree with back-to-back bombs in the third. The six-run lead shrank to just two in the top of the fourth as first baseman Shelbi Thornhill delivered a three-run homer and third baseman Krystal Cammuse added a solo shot for the Patriots. With Lauren Seibert coming in for starting pitcher Cara Law at the end of the fourth inning she kept the St. Catharine bats quiet the rest of the day while Lindsey Wilson manufactured another run in the fourth and sixth innings to capture the 8-4 win. Seibert (5-0) picked up her second straight win, allowing just two hits and striking out a pair of batters in 3-1/3 innings. Law allowed the four runs in the fourth but gave up just five hits and struck out two in 3-2/3 innings. Ashley Cardenas took the loss after giving up the two first-inning home runs and walking a batter without recording an out. None of the Patriots recorded more than one hit, while four Blue Raiders tallied two hits each.
