News from Lindsey Wilson College

DANVILLE, KY - On the eve of the Mid-South Conference Softball Tournament in Danville, Ky., top-seeded Lindsey Wilson College accepted a large load of hardware at the annual awards banquet.

In all, the Blue Raiders received 21 awards, including three of the major awards which were all voted on by MSC coaches.

Shortstop Jamie Williams was named Player of the Year, the same honor she received as a freshman in 2009, Cara Law received Pitcher of the Year and Ashley McCool-Cozart shared Coach of the Year honors with Shawnee State's (Portsmouth, OH) Ralph Cole.

McCool-Cozart has been named the league's top coach in all three years she has been at Lindsey Wilson, while Williams -- now a two-time player of the year -- was also the Freshman of the Year in 2009.

Williams hit .339 this season with 13 home runs, 53 RBIs, two triples and 11 doubles, while Law finished regular season with a 19-3 record in the circle with a 1.21 ERA and 105 strikeouts while limiting opposing batters to a .172 average.

McCool-Cozart led the Blue Raiders to their third straight season with 40 wins, finishing the regular season at 42-10 overall and 19-5 in the MSC. Lindsey Wilson has won the MSC Tournament under her guidance the past two seasons and looks to qualify for a third straight trip to the NAIA National Championship with another MSC title this season.

Blue Raiders joining Law and Williams as First-Team All-Conference picks were pitcher Jordan Hood and third baseman Emily Priar.

Catcher Josie Cox and outfielder Andrea Whelan were Second-Team All-MSC choices.

A conference-best 12 student-athletes from Lindsey Wilson earned Academic All-Conference honors, edging Campbellsville (Ky.) with 11 honorees.

To receive the award, student-athletes must maintain a 3.25 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale and be of sophomore or higher academic standing. - Dan White
