Kentucky Transportation Cabinet prepares for mowing season Motorists asked to slow down, stay alert in mowing zones; those with signs on rights of way asked to remove them; KHD will remove signs begining Monday, April 23, 2012 By Amber Hicks, Information Officer Kentucky Highway Dept., District 8, Somerset, KY SOMERSET, KY (April 17, 2012) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is gearing up for roadside mowing season, which stretches from May to October. State and contract crews will complete three mowing cycles, including litter removal on interstates, parkways and other primary routes throughout the state. KYTC officials ask Kentuokians to do their part by keeping the state right of Way clear of temporary signs and other obstacles that can obstruct the path of mowers and pose a hazard for mowing crews and motorists. Kentucky law prohibits placement of unauthorized signs on state right of Way. The prohibition also applies to signs attached to utility poles on the right of way. Campaign signs and other signs placed on state right of way that restrict sight distance or interfere with mowing operations will be removed by KYTC crews beginning Monday, April 23, 2012. Signs will be moved to the state highway garage in each county of KYTC District 8 and kept for two weeks. Unclaimed signs will be discarded.
