BJF: Quality of Future contingent on understanding past

The Case for Putting Sparksville on the Sparksville Water Tower

Our county's many communities outside our glorious county seat have a real identity problem. These many small communities: Sparksville, Knifley, Garlin, Christine, Milltown, Glensfork, Breeding, Cane Valley, Gradyville, Keltner, Melson's Ridge, Coburg, etc. have contributed much to the county and to who we are as a people. I do personally think the water tower is a perfect opportunity to identify the exact location of this tower which serves much of Adair County's water needs.

The quality of the future is often contingent upon understanding the past. We should make every reasonable effort to insure that these communities are not forgotten. We don't want folks a hundred years from now to be searching for the Millerfields the way we are looking for Elroy today. I think our fiscal court needs to step up to the plate so to speak and commission our county's many artists to design an identifying roadside marker with historic information about each community. - Billy Joe Fudge

Amen: The strong community churches, county fire departments, and the country stores are heroically doing their parts to save the very foundation of what made Adair County great: Strong neighborhoods. They need all the help they can get, the least of which would be better signage. Sulphur Well in Metcalfe County erected signs county seats could be proud to have. Maybe our communities could do the same, maybe with help from the media, from county government, from banks, from civic clubs, and yes, utilities. -EW
