Does anyone have a photo of Jamestown Hilltop before top removed? Comments re photo 44050 Coming soon a view weve never seen before Ann Heskamp Curtis writes: Hi Ed, I wonder if anyone has an old photo of this corner before the current commercial development was there. The view when it was a hillside, with home and trees? My mind's eye has failed me and I can't recall what it looked like, although I'm sure I saw it almost every day of my childhood! Thanks, Ann Heskamp Curtis. I've always hoped for the same photo. From what people have told me, the first cut into the hill was for KY 80, when it was built, in the 1930s, I believe. I can remember when the CVS site had one tiny little Standard Oil gas station, and I watched the progressive excavation as the hilltop was removed. I can vividly recall the Wilkerson (or was it Wilkinson) later Clyde Young Home. Surely someone has a picture of it. Hope so, anyway. And, of course, thanks for the reminder of the tradeoffs for "progress." -EW This story was posted on 2012-03-05 02:28:39
