Mark Polston, who is pastor of Free Union Church in the Sano Community (Adair County side) is the second candidate to announce. Candidate Announcement from Mark Polston Mark F. Polston officially announced his candidacy for State Senate today. Polston, 52, of Somerset seeks the seat of retiring Senator Vernie McGaha. "Sen. McGaha admirably served the people of the 15th district for the past 16 years. I am seeking office for the first time and will continue Sen. McGaha's steadfast advocacy for the bedrock values of South Central Kentucky." Polston said. "I'm humbled and honored that many friends from Adair, Casey, Pulaski and Russell counties encouraged me to serve," Polston said. Polston, a local attorney and businessman, is an advocate for leaner and more responsive government. "People are tired of politics as usual, they want someone who understands them and their everyday struggles. I do." "The last four years were rough. Many of my friends lost their jobs or businesses, others are simply treading water. We need a voice to speak up for workers and small business owners, I will. Job creation and retention is the biggest problem facing our area. We have a wealth of resources that make our region a great area for business. Our people are the finest in the world and will work hard for a good employer if given the opportunity. State and local leaders must reach out to businesses and enact policies that encourage manufacturers, service industries and other job creators to locate here." Polston's campaign is built around his clear plan. "My focus as state senator is to Control spending, Lower taxes, Enhance economic development, Act in the best interest of citizens and Respond to the citizens." he stated. Polston is the son of Albert and Mildred Polston of Somerset and the grandson of the late Arve and Flonnie Polston and John and Leona Wiggington all of Jabez. Polston's wife Lisa is the daughter of Jimmy and Janice Polston of Indianapolis and the late James (Jim B.) and Eva Polston and Alice Brown of Jabez. He grew up in Jabez and Nancy and graduated from Nancy High School. He earned an associate's degree from Somerset Community College, a bachelor's degree from Campbellsville University, and a law degree from Indiana University School of Law. Polston served as Deputy Attorney General for ten years and is currently the co-owner of Classic Carpet in Somerset with his wife Lisa. He has two sons Jordan, age 19 and Jonathan, age 14. He is an ordained minister and pastored churches in Adair, Casey, Pulaski and Russell counties; Trace Fork in Casey, Calvary in Pulaski, Fairview and Christian Home in Russell and is currently the pastor of Free Union in the Sano community of Adair county.
