Kentucky EQIP Sign-Up Period runs through Feb. 29, 2012

By Jennifer Hardwick

USDA NRCS in Kentucky announces February 29, 2012 as the Second Application Period for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). The current sign-up period runs through February 29, 2012. If you are interested in participating in EQIP or other Farm Bill conservation programs, you should contact your local NRCS office as soon as possible. For more information, contact Kenny Hammond, NRCS Soil Technician at 270-343-3343 or stop by the Russell County Conservation District, 159 Ferco Way, Jamestown, KY 42629.

As spring arrives and the new farm year begins, you may have identified resource concerns on your farm that need to be addressed. The Natural Resources Conservation Service - or NRCS for short - is available to help.

NRCS in Kentucky is currently accepting applications for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, more commonly known as "EQIP". Through EQIP, financial assistance is available to farmers to help address resource issues on their farms. The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is a conservation program that provides financial and technical assistance to farmers who face threats to soil, water, air, and related natural resources on their land. Through EQIP, NRCS develops contracts with agricultural producers to voluntarily implement conservation practices. Persons engaged in livestock or agricultural production and owners of non-industrial private forestland are eligible for this program. Eligible land includes cropland, rangeland, pastureland, private non-industrial forestland, and other farm or ranch lands.

NRCS is an equal opportunity provider. - JENNIFER HARDWICK
