Hydrologic Outlook calls for possible flooding Green River basin

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE, Louisville, KY: Green River Basin seems most likely to be impacted by heavy rains

National Weather Service Louisville KY issued a Hydrologic Outlook for the Columbia, KY area. (231 Pm Est Tue Jan 24 2012 /131 Pm Cst Tue Jan 24 2012/) calling for "Moderate to Briefly Heavy Rain and Minor Flooding possible late this week."

"A slow moving front will move across the region late wednesdaythrough Thursday night. very moist air will stream into theregion from the south and southwest both ahead of and along thisboundary. widespread rains of 1 to 2 inches are forecast.

"The Tennessee And Ohio Valleys have had enough rainfallrecently to lead to moist soils. some rivers...Especially TheGreen...are already running high. another round of rain willresult in minor flooding. at this point the Green River Basin looksto be the most strongly impacted.

"This event is still far enough in the future that there is someuncertainty regarding exact rainfall amounts. However...Theweather pattern looks favorable for moderate to briefly heavyrainfall. Emergency managers...Media...And people living in orvisiting the area should pay close attention to updated forecastsfor the possibility of significant rainfall and flooding."
