Mrs. Emogene Melton, age 85, of Glasgow, Ky and formerly of the Gaines Hill Community in Cumberland County, KY, passed away Saturday January 21, 2012 at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday January 23, 2012 at 1pmCT, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N. Main Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Gary E. Cash officiating. Burial will be in the Gaines Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends until the service time on Monday.

She was born on Thursday April 8, 1926 in Cumberland County, KY, the daughter of Sam and Earlie Guthrie Melton. She passed away Saturday January 21, 2012 in Glasgow, Barren County, KY, at the age of 85 years, 9 months, and 13 days.

She was a member of Guthrie Chapel United Methodist Church, attended Pleasant Hill Church, a farmer and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Olison "Ott" Melton: her infant daughter, Connie Jean Melton: her brothers, Roy Melton and Nermon Melton; her sisters, Martha Jo "Josie" McCoy and Loretta Slaughter: her daughter-in-law, Janice Melton; and her granddaughter, Myra Ann Thompson.

She is survived by the following:
  • Her children: Lester Melton of Kettle, KY; Brenda (and Lonell) Thompson of Celina, TN., Teresa (and Duwayne) Nelson of Glasgow, KY

  • Her sisters: Lois Melton and Ina Ree Capps, both of Burkesville, KY

  • Her grandchildren: Stacy Thompson, Bryant Thompson, and Brandon Strother

  • Her great-grandchildren: Katyln Thompson, Adrianna Thompson, Brock Thompson, and Kendric Strother
